Root Canals

If there’s infected material in your tooth, we need to get it out. Doing so can save the tooth, as well as preventing further complications throughout your mouth. Learn what you need to know about this procedure.

Who Needs a Root Canal?

There are many reasons why your tooth’s pulp might have become infected:

If this pulp is infected, it needs to be addressed. The earlier the problem is addressed, the more likely it is that we will be able to save the tooth. This can also help mitigate the pain that the abscess causes.

In some cases, patients with cracked teeth will need to get them extracted. This depends on the severity of the breakage. If the crack goes past the gumline, the tooth needs to be removed.

What to Expect from Your Root Canal?

Root canals aren’t nearly as painful as they used to be. If you’ve heard horror stories or you got one long ago, there’s no reason to be worried. Many appointments don’t last for more than an hour, though particularly complicated cases may need an hour-and-a-half.

Recovery typically takes no more than a few days. Once the area has healed, you should be able to eat and drink normally. The tooth will function as expected, since the pulp we’re removing isn’t necessary once the tooth has fully developed.
